U.P. Pink Power Walk: Stepping into spring with purpose.
April 18, 2025
Every spring in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, something extraordinary happens along the quiet roads between the Knotty Pine and the Up North Lodge. The U.P. Pink Power 17-Mile Walk isn’t just a fundraiser—it’s a celebration of strength, remembrance, and the unshakable spirit of community.
As winter loosens its grip and the last signs of "mud season" fade away, hundreds of participants lace up their walking shoes (and sometimes pull out wigs, tutus, and superhero capes) to take part in this beloved annual event. For many, it marks the real beginning of spring—a reason to emerge from hibernation and hit the road with purpose.
Walk for a Cause. Walk for Fun. Walk Together.
Every person on the route has a story. Some walk in memory of loved ones lost. Others walk because they themselves have battled and triumphed over life-altering illnesses. Many simply walk to support the community that has always supported them. And no matter the reason, everyone walks with a smile.
Throughout the years, the walk has become known for its creative costumes and light-hearted camaraderie. Think pink boas, neon wigs, fairy wings, team shirts, and even aliens carrying a human—because why not? It’s a day when laughter and hugs are just as common as footsteps.
The Pit Stops: Fuel, Fun, and Encouragement
Lining the 17-mile journey are cheerful pit stops—mini celebrations in their own right. These stops offer snacks, drinks, music, photo ops, and plenty of encouragement to keep spirits high and feet moving. You might find eats, sweet treats, specially concocted drinks, music blasting from speakers, or even a dance party happening on the side of the road. Volunteers and bystanders cheer walkers on like champions, rain or shine.
This is more than just a walk. It’s a rolling parade of kindness.
A Legacy of Giving Back
The women behind U.P. Pink Power have created something truly extraordinary—a grassroots movement that has raised over $461,000 and directly helped more than 1,600 Upper Peninsula families facing tragedy, illness, unexpected diagnoses, and other life-altering challenges. While the organization once provided AEDs to local businesses and public spaces, today their focus is on monetary donations that offer immediate relief and hope to fellow Yoopers in need. Quietly, persistently, and with unmatched compassion, this team continues to uplift our community—one dollar, one family, and one act of kindness at a time.
Hope in Every Mile
Whether you walk the full 17 miles, ride part of the route, or simply show up to cheer someone on, being part of the U.P. Pink Power Walk is something special. It’s a day filled with memories, healing, laughter, and hope. A reminder that when Yoopers come together, we move mountains—even if it's one muddy mile at a time.
So this April, dust off your sneakers, don your wildest party gear, and come out to join the celebration. It’s more than a walk.
