Kicking off Friday night, the festival opens with the imaginative words of Bigfoot Poet Laureate Marty Achatz, followed by a benefit concert that sets the perfect tone for the weekend. Saturday brings a full day of excitement, featuring engaging seminars on conservation and Leave No Trace ethics, hands-on activities such as learning how to cast a fly rod and fly fish, a variety of unique vendors, lively bluegrass music, and appearances by our very own elusive local legend, Red Plaid Chad. Anderson Lake Backyard Ultra

The Explore Our Wild Anderson Lake Backyard Ultra is making history as the first event of its kind in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This 24-hour endurance run takes place on a 4.167-mile loop at Anderson Lake, where participants run every hour on the hour for as long as they can continue. Designed for runners of all levels, the Backyard Ultra is less about competition and more about personal challenge—testing limits, building resilience, and embracing the outdoors in a unique and supportive setting.
