Behind the Business: U.P. Sunrise Cottages

Behind the Business: U.P. Sunrise Cottages

When Jeff and Angie Martin purchased the former Northern Lights Lakeside Resort nearly six years ago, they were taking a leap of faith. Neither of them came from a business background, but they saw something special in the property and in the Little Lake community. What began as a dream and a willingness to learn has since grown into one of Forsyth Township's most beloved family vacation destinations.

Today, U.P. Sunrise Cottages features nine lakeside cottages nestled along the shores of Farmer Lake, complete with beach access, an aquapark, and a variety of family-friendly activities. The property has become a destination for visitors looking to experience the beauty of the Upper Peninsula while enjoying a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere.

The journey, however, was not without challenges. Like many small business owners, the Martins learned through experience, determination, and countless hours of hard work. Over the past several years, they have invested not only in improving the property but also in creating an experience that keeps families coming back year after year.

"As we enter our sixth summer, we are unbelievably proud of what we have built, and even more so grateful for the friends who have come alongside us to put in the hard work and long hours," Jeff and Angie shared.

What makes U.P. Sunrise Cottages unique isn't just the beautiful location on Farmer Lake it's the care and hospitality behind every stay. The Martin family has built their business around creating memorable experiences for guests and making vacations easier for families.

"We specialize in making sure moms and dads actually get a restful vacation," they explained. "From the time they pack up to the time they get home, we keep hearing from happy guests how restful their vacation was because we provide everything they could think of so they don't have to pack it."

That attention to detail has earned them a loyal following. Local residents frequently recommend the cottages to visiting family members and friends, while others stop by simply to revisit cherished childhood memories connected to the property. The resort has become more than a place to stay, it has become part of the community's story.

In many ways, U.P. Sunrise Cottages represents the spirit of a true small town business. The Martins have embraced the opportunity to invest in Little Lake, support local tourism, and create a welcoming destination that benefits both residents and visitors. Their commitment to customer service, community involvement, and continuous improvement has helped transform the property into a place where families can unplug and reconnect.

The Martin family takes great pride in the community and values every guest who walks through their doors. Their success is a testament to what can happen when hard work, perseverance, and a passion for serving others come together.

Whether you're visiting from across the country or you've lived in Forsyth Township your entire life, consider spending a night at U.P. Sunrise Cottages and experiencing everything the property has to offer. You might just discover why so many families return to the cottages.

Forsyth Forward would like to thank Jeff and Angie Martin for being valued members of our organization and for their continued commitment to strengthening our community. Their investment in Little Lake, local tourism, and family friendly recreation helps make Forsyth Township a better place!
