Celebrating Community Dedication: Alan Cook Named 2026 Small Business Champion

Our very own Alan Cook, Director of Forsyth Forward, was recently recognized by the Lake Superior Community Partnership (LSCP) as the recipient of the 2026 Small Business Champion Award! The award was presented during LSCP's annual Small Business Celebration at The Mather in Ishpeming, recognizing individuals and businesses making a difference throughout Marquette County.

As Assistant Executive Director of Forsyth Forward. I have the opportunity to see firsthand just how much time, effort, and dedication Alan puts into this organization and the community we serve. So much of this work happens behind the scenes, and it takes someone who is truly invested in a community to put in the time and effort that Alan does. Forsyth Forward would not exist in the capacity it does today without his dedication, perseverance, and countless hours spent finding ways to make things happen.

If there is one thing I have learned working alongside Alan. It is that if he sets a goal, he will find a way to make it happen. Whether it is building new partnerships, finding funding opportunities, supporting local businesses, or bringing new ideas to life. Alan is always looking for ways to move this community forward. He has built countless connections throughout the community and has a genuine interest in getting to know the people and businesses that make Forsyth Township.

Alan personally knows nearly every small business in our community. And if he doesn't, he will go out of his way to introduce himself. Build a connection and find ways to offer support wherever possible. His commitment to small business goes beyond simply promoting local businesses. He genuinely cares about the people behind them and understands how much their success contributes to the overall success of our community.

During the LSCP celebration, Alan shared an important perspective on the role small businesses play in Forsyth Township.

"We're very aware that small businesses in Forsyth Township, they are sort of the epicenter of our community, right? If they succeed, the community does well. If they struggle and have tough years, it is felt throughout the community."

This is something that is reflected in the work Alan does every day. Supporting small businesses means supporting local families, creating opportunities, strengthening our local economy, and helping ensure that our community continues to grow and thrive.

I also think it is important to recognize that much of the work behind Forsyth Forward comes through unpaid labor, countless volunteer hours, and the dedication of people. People who genuinely care about seeing this community succeed. We are incredibly fortunate to have someone so invested in this organization's mission in the driver's seat. At the same time, this recognition is a reflection of the many people who have supported Forsyth Forward along the way. Every volunteer, donor, business member, community partner, and individual who has contributed their time, resources, or support has played a part in helping us get to where we are today.

On behalf of Forsyth Forward, we want to extend a huge congratulations and thank you to Alan for all of his hard work, dedication, and the countless hours he continues to invest in this organization and community. We also want to thank the Lake Superior Community Partnership for recognizing the importance of small businesses and the individuals who work to support them. Finally, thank you to everyone who has been part of the Forsyth Forward journey. This organization is what it is because of the people who believe in its mission and continue to show up and support us.

I am personally grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Alan and witness firsthand the passion and perseverance he brings to this organization. Our community and Forsyth Forward are incredibly lucky to have someone so invested in seeing this place succeed.

Congratulations, Alan! This recognition is well deserved. We are proud to celebrate you and this symbol of appreciation and recognition for all of your hard work and dedication!
